REAP Mobile App – Privacy Policy

Welcome to the REAP Mobile App, developed by the Pan African Collective for Evidence (PACE). We are committed to protecting your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), as well as international standards applicable to our global user base.


1. Introduction

PACE (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a South African non-profit organisation focused on advancing evidence-based policymaking. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the REAP Mobile App (“the App”).Scope: This policy applies to all users of the App, globally. 


2. Information We Collect


2.1 Personal Information

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number (if provided)
  • Professional role or affiliation


2.2 Usage & Technical Data

  • Interaction with content in the App
  • Device type, OS version, IP address
  • App version and technical logs


2.3 Optional Information

  • Feedback submitted via the App
  • Survey responses
  • Uploaded or user-generated content 


3. How We Use Your Information

We process your information to: 

  • Provide and improve App functionality 
  • Personalise your experience 
  • Communicate with you (support, updates, research) 
  • Monitor performance and user engagement 
  • Fulfil legal and regulatory obligations 


4. Legal Basis for Processing (POPIA + Global Standards)

  • Consent (e.g., registration, surveys)
  • Contractual necessity (providing access to the App)
  • Compliance with law (e.g., POPIA, GDPR where applicable)
  • Legitimate interest (improving user experience, research)


5. Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell or rent your data. We may share data: 

  • With trusted service providers (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics)

10. Children’s Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 18, you must use the App with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent. 


11. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We may use in-app tracking tools or SDKs to: 

  • Monitor performance 
  • Identify technical issues 
  • Understand user engagement

You will be notified on first use. 


12. Data Breach Response

In the event of a data breach, we will: 

  • Notify affected users as soon as reasonably possible 
  • Notify the Information Regulator of South Africa (and other relevant regulators, if required) 
  • Provide guidance on steps you can take to protect yourself 


13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. Major updates will be communicated in-app or via email. Continued use of the App indicates acceptance.

REAP Mobile App – Terms of Service

Last Updated: 2025/10/27 These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the REAP Mobile App. By downloading or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. 


1. Acceptance of Terms

By using the REAP Mobile App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please uninstall the App and discontinue use. 


2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use this App
  • Users under 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian. 


3. User Accounts

  • You must provide accurate information during registration
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login details
  • Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised use of your account. 


4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for illegal or harmful purposes
  • Upload offensive, discriminatory, or misleading content
  • Interfere with the App’s performance or security
  • Copy, modify, or reverse-engineer the App 


5. User Responsibilities

In addition to acceptable use, you agree to: 

  • Keep your device secure and up-to-date
  • Ensure your login credentials are not shared
  • Use the App only for lawful, intended purposes 


6. Intellectual Property

All content and features of the App are owned by PACE or its licensors. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or modify any part of the App without written permission. 


7. User-Generated Content

If you submit content:

  • You grant PACE a royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use it for educational and research purposes. 
  • You confirm that your content does not infringe on third-party rights. 


8. Third-Party Services

The App may integrate with third-party platforms (e.g., analytics tools, hosting services). PACE is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of these services. 


9. Disclaimer

The App is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service or that the App will be error-free. 


10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, PACE will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of the App. 


11. Service Availability

We may suspend or limit the App (including for maintenance or updates). We will make reasonable efforts to notify users in advance of significant disruptions. 


12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or misuse the App. 


13. Dispute Resolution

Any disputes will first be addressed through good-faith negotiation. If unresolved, disputes will be subject to the laws and courts of the Republic of South Africa.


14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. You will be notified of significant changes. Continued use of the App after updates constitutes acceptance. 


15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
